Great news this week from our friends at By the Ocean We Unite! Through their organisation we have been gifted a donation.
What does By the Ocean We Unite do?
By the Ocean we Unite is a Dutch foundation with charitable status (ANBI) that contributes to preventing more plastics from ending up in our oceans. Through the organization of a variety of activities – sailing expeditions, lectures, documentaries & more – they conduct research, create awareness, educate and activate people, organisations and governments to make much needed changes. By joining forces with partners worldwide they increase their outreach and positive impact.
Why did we receive a donation?
By the Ocean We Unite views plastic pollution as a global problem which we can only solve by working together and helping where possible. Therefore they created the PIFF: Pay-It-Forward-Fund. It works as follows: Startups working on reducing plastic pollution can get in touch with BTOWU to explain their concept – sometimes they pick organisations themselves. During sailing expeditions ideas are discussed with the expedition members. All ideas, network and suggestions are forwarded to the organisation after the expedition. A part of the expedition fee is put it in a fund, of which the expedition members themselves eventually decide which organisation(s) they will support financially, with the main goal to reduce plastic pollution.
During the fourth and fifth By The Ocean We Unite sailing expedition for cleaner oceans the team set sail to Denmark. The participants of Expedition Denmark decided to grant SEAVENTS with a donation, thus supporting us in our efforts to make festivals zero waste & plastic free.
We want to thank By the Ocean We Unite and the expedition members that chose SEAVENTS as their preferred organisation for their donation. We will make sure to spend it on making our plastic-free dreams a reality!
